Hello all,
I am excited to share the mask I made for auction in support of the Utah Arts Festival.  My goal was to create a mask that prominently featured Dew Drops.  This is the second year that I have participated in this event and each year I have created a Dragonfly themed mask.  Because I love Dragonfly’s of course!
I love how the Dew Drops add texture and dimension to the piece.  I wanted to give the effect of a bulbous eye on one side with the wings on the other side.  Be sure to scroll down to see the step by step process.
Mystical Dragonfly

The Robin’s Nest:

Other materials:
  • Paper pressed mask
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Stencil
  • Texture paste
  • Wire
  • Fabric
  • Matte varnish
  • Paper flowers
  • Dried baby’s breath

1) Cut paper pressed mask to desired shape.
2) Apply texture paste to tissue paper and adhere to mask.  Color with acrylic paint.

3) Adhere dew drops around eye of mask.

4) Create wings with fabric and wire; fix to mask with wire and adhesive.  Adorn wings with dew drops (into shapes of flowers) and cover base of wings (at the point that they meet the mask).  Embellish mask with paper flowers and dried baby’s breath.

There is something very gratifying about creating art for a good cause! I hope you have enjoyed this project.
Happy day!
Lori
